And the parrot himself answered:

«The daughter of Balapandit, the Child-Sage, addressed the saddened Brahmin:

«Father, you look as if you’ve lost your mind. Tell me the reason for your sorrow. Learned men remain at their best even in adversity. They say, after all:

«Rarely do mothers give birth to sons who are the forehead ornaments of the Three Worlds, who are not overjoyed in happiness, nor sad in adversity, and who are restrained and courageous on the battlefield.»

The Brahmin explained everything:

«For this reason, the lord is banishing me. Because:

«In this world, no one can be considered a friend, a loyal and beloved person, or a brother-in-law, much less a ruler who plots intrigues.»

It is also said:

«Who has seen or heard of the purity of a jackdaw, the honesty of a dice player, the mercy of a snake, the absence of lust in women, the courage of a coward, the prudence of a drunkard, or the friendliness of a ruler?!»

And also:

«One should not trust rivers, those armed with claws, horns, or those wielding a saber, nor women or members of the ruler’s clan.»

«Kings are like snakes—voluptuous, covered in chain mail, cruel, crooked, and difficult to approach.»

«The ruler, even while laughing with you, can kill; even while paying respect, he can act like a villain; like an elephant, he kills with just a touch; like a snake, with just a sniff.»

This ruler, though I have served him since childhood, has become an enemy. So, if I want to live, I must go to a foreign land along with the other Brahmins. It is said:
