The next day, Prabhavati asked the parrot to continue the story. The parrot replied:
«Lady, when the next day arrived, Balapandita said to the Raja, ‘It is not good to persist, for it is not fitting for a Raja to be stubborn in either good or bad; his limbs are all living beings, and therefore he is powerful.
If I were to tell you, Raja, the same thing would happen to you as happened to the merchant’s daughter: she failed to achieve anything, either at home or outside the home.’
The king asked, ‘How is this possible?’ Balapandita explained, ‘There is a place on earth called Tripura, where Raja Trivikrama reigned. There lived a merchant named Sundara. His wife, Subhaga, was a very promiscuous woman, and her husband tried in every way to keep her from leaving the house. But even before her husband stopped allowing her to leave, a merchant who lived near a yaksha temple had intercourse with her.’ And now that her husband was keeping her at home, she said to one of her friends, «My friend, bring that man to the Yaksha temple today. I’ll go there and have some fun with him. After I leave, set fire to our house so that the household, busy with the house, won’t notice my absence. Meanwhile, I’ll return, having enjoyed myself to my heart’s content.» At her friend’s command, the man arrived at the appointed place, and Subhaga went to him. As she was walking there, her friend set her house on fire. The man, out of curiosity, went to watch the fire and left the Yaksha temple prematurely. While Subhaga stood in the temple and then, having failed to achieve her goal, walked back, the house burned down.
