Links to Astronomy

First, mythological texts, especially, Sanskrit ones, contain such abundance of mathematical and astronomical terms and exact data, even large libraries of texts of natural-science character that it would be naive not to see their interconnection with exact sciences and, in particular, with astronomy.

Creators of the Vedic scientific-mythological tradition and the major characters of the Vedic literature are embodiments of notions of spherics and observational astronomy: Vyasa is diameter of a circle, Vishnu is a circle or the ecliptic, Yojana is an arc, Prithushravas is a hypotenuse of a triangle, Brahma, Agni, Indra are the Sun or the Full Moon, etc.
